Inspiring Excellence Conference 2017

May 21, 2017

On Wednesday May 17th we were delighted to host 146 delegates at our 2nd Annual Inspiring Excellence Conference, held at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

The day was opened with two fantastic talks - A Simple Guide to Getting it Wrong by Dr. Jonathan Round, followed by Keeping Medicine Brilliant by Dr. Yee Yen Goh. After coffee Dr. Zovanga Kone gave a topical presentation entitled Immigration and the UK's NHS, after which we broke up for a series of workshops and lunch.

Workshops included The ABC of Publication by Dr. Helen Haycock, The Genomic Era by Dr. Kate Tatton-Brown, Quality Improvement by Dr. Cindy Sethi, Consultant Interviews with Dr. Mehool Patel, What can your Union do for You? by Eddie Saville of the HCSA, How to Use the Media by Robert McNeil, Healthcare Starts with Self-care by Dr. Caroline Reed-O'Connor, Shape of Training by Dr. Andrew Frankel, Mindful Medics by Dr. Reena Kotecha and Tough Decisions by Dr. Jonathan Round.

After lunch our very own Christian Brown chaired a Panel Discussion entitled Technology and the NHS, with Dr. Katherine Rogerson, Ms. Pauline Richardson and Mr. David Cole.

The discussion was followed by Dr. TJ Lasoye's talk on Differential Attainment in Post-Graduate Medical Education, and our day was brought to a close by Professor Tony Young speaking on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the NHS and Dr. Asiya Yunus' talk Joy in Practice.

We also had 22 posters displayed as part of our poster competition - see associated post for Prize Winners!

We are grateful to all our speakers for giving up their time to educate and entertain us with this excellent series of talks.  We hope everyone in the audience enjoyed the day as much as we did, and look forward to inviting you back in 2018.
